The first time Mike Watts received a stats sheet for a soccer game, he figured the number next to the apostrophe represented the distance from which the goals were scored. A coach had to inform him the number was actually the minute the goal was scored in.
Watts was calling soccer games because Saint Ignatius High School had the No. 1 men’s soccer team in the country, and he wanted to help ensure they got as much attention as the other teams at the school. The team took embraced him and appreciated what the students broadcasting their games were trying to do.
