Jazmin Wardlow (née Jackmon) had to be talked into attending the 2019 National Women’s Soccer League Draft. There was no guarantee she was going to be picked, and she probably wouldn’t have gone if her longtime coach, Manny Martins, hadn’t encouraged her to do so.
Wardlow made history that day in Chicago, becoming the first player from the Oregon women’s soccer program to be selected by an NWSL team when the Houston Dash picked her in the third round.
“It’s just an honor to show people that anything is possible,” she said. “With the draft, it was just really awesome just to be around so many other great players … I didn’t want to go. I was so nervous. I was thinking the worst.”
